It seems so easy when you see the twelve-year-old Brazilian boys and girls surf over the waves in such a relaxed way.
They ride the waves so naturally, as if they are just stepping out of bed. It couldn’t be less true. It demands a lot of strength and determination from the beginning surfer to get the hang of the ‘trick’. But once you finally master it and ride that first perfect wave, you become unstoppable.
It is that much fun.
Where can you (learn to) surf in Brazil?
With a coastline of 7,491 kilometers, Brazil is an ideal country for surfing. There are numerous coastal towns where you can surf and take surfing lessons. We have lined up four for you.

1. Tibau do Sul
If you are a beginner and prefer to learn surfing in a sheltered environment, we can really recommend Tibau do Sul. Joscan would love to teach you the basics. You can’t miss his surf school at the beach in Tibau do Sul. He literally invites everyone passing by on the beach to take a lesson.
2. Pipa
In the northeast of Brazil, the hip fishing town Pipa with the popular beach Praia do Amor is the place to be. The beach has perfect waves all year long, and if you’re lucky a dolphin might swim by.
3. Buzios
The Geriba beach can be found in the posh beach town Buzios, a two-hour drive from Rio. Besides being known for its waves, it’s also known for the good-looking people who go there and the celebrities you might bump into.
4. Ilha de Santa Catarina/Florianopolis
The island in the south of Brazil is world-famous for its beautiful surf beaches. Praia Mole is our favorite. It has the best waves on the island and with Aragua Cultural and Sports Center and Floripa Surfclub, it also has two excellent surf schools. The latter also offers delicious organic lunches, of course with a sea view.
