Paraty is one of the most beautiful colonial cities in Brazil. It’s situated on the coast and served as a port from which gold was sailed to Rio de Janeiro.
These two important cities were part of the ‘Caminho do Ouro’ (gold route).

1. To do and see

This former port city is a smaller version of Ouro Prêto. It has an eye-catching historical center with charming restaurants, cafés, and shops. Touristy, yet stylish. Right off the coast of Paraty, there are dozens of islands with magnificent beaches that can be reached by boat.
2. Sleep
I slept two nights in Pousada Talisma, which is a simple pousada and therefore an economic option.
3. Eat and drink
Just outside the historic part of Paraty you can find the excellent restaurant Tempero Brasileiro, which serves Comida Caseira. Dishes that could come right out of mother’s kitchen.
Address: Rua Jose Vieira Ramos 116
4. Transport
From Rio de Janeiro, buses from bus company Costa Verde run daily to Paraty.
