The 18th century Carioca Aqueduct is an eye-catcher. This aqueduct is better known as Arcos da Lapa, where the iconic Bondinho de Santa Teresa (see photo) has passed over since 1877. On Friday and Saturday nights, the Arcos forms the backdrop for a raving street party, attracting thousands of people and continuing into the early morning hours.
The stairs that connect Lapa with Santa Teresa are another famous tourist attraction. They are the life’s work of the Chilean artist Jorge Selarón, who worked on them until his death in 2013 and created a treasured work of art.
Also the rapper Snoop Dog was captivated by it and taped his music video for his single Beautiful on that spot in 2003.
On your way to and into Santa Teresa, you will come across beautifully renovated colonial houses, art studios, small stores, cafes, and restaurants, and you will also be able to enjoy the magnificent view of Rio de Janeiro.

When you arrive at Bar do Gomez, you have already climbed a considerable way. The bar opened its doors in 1919 and is a great place to drink your well-earned caipirinha among the locals.
